Opening hours over Labour Weekend

The Library will be closed on Monday 24th October for the Labour Day Holiday.

Labour Day commemorates the eight-hour working day initiated by the labour union movement over a century ago. It is celebrated on the fourth Monday in October.

The ‘eight-hour day’ recognises that each day has eight hours for work, eight for rest and eight for recreation. The origin of New Zealand’s labour movement goes back to 1840.

We will reopen on Tuesday 25th October at 8 am.

Library closed on Monday 26th September for the Queen Elizabeth II Remembrance Day

The Library at all Ara Campus will be closed on Monday 26th September as we officially remember the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

This is a one off public holiday announced by the government last week and will be observed right across the country. There will be a national ceremony to remember the Queen in Wellington on that day.

Our normal hours of operation will resume at 7 am on Tuesday 27th September.

Library hours over Canterbury Anniversary Weekend

All branches of the library at Ara Institute of Canterbury will be closed on Friday 12th November 2021 for Canterbury Anniversary Day (Show Day). We will reopen at 10am on Saturday 13th November.

Once again the annual Agricultural Exhibition held at the show grounds in Hillmorton has been cancelled due to Covid. 

The last Agricultural Exhibition was back in 2018

This will be only the third time in its history that the Show has been cancelled. The other times were during the Second World War when it did not take place from 1939-1944 and in 2020.

While the Canterbury Agricultural Show is cancelled most of us will still have a day off work & study. Show Weekend is a good time to catch up with friends and family. Walks, picnics, barbeques and family get togethers are all good options…

Library opening hours in semester two

I am pleased to announce that the City Campus library will be returning to our usual hours of operation starting from the beginning of semester two.

 

From Monday the 20th July the Library will be open:

Monday-Friday      7 am-8 pm

 Saturday                  10 am-5 pm

     Sunday                    12 noon-5 pm

We also welcome back our Student Assistant Team (SALT) for the first time since the Covid-19 lockdown. You will see them working around the library from 7 am on the Monday after the semester break.

Our opening hours are extended from semester two….

Library opening hours for the rest of Semester One

 

For the remainder of Semester One the Library at City Campus will be open from:

8am to 5pm Monday to Friday

We are happy to announce that on-campus computer suites can now be accessed after the Library closes for the day. Please note you will require your Ara ID card to enter buildings on campus after 5 pm.

We will resume our normal hours of operation from the beginning of the new semester.

From Monday the 21st July our opening hours will be:

7 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday

10 am to 5 pm Saturday

12 noon to 5 pm Sunday.

 

Our usual hours will resume form July 21st 2020

We apologise for any inconvenience our shortened hours may have caused over the last weeks and look forward to returning to our full service hours in the new semester.

This semester the Library on Madras St Campus is trialling new opening hours at 7 am on Monday to Fridays.

The trial period will run  from Monday 19 October until 27 November 2015.

So for all you early starters, before 8am, our Student Assistants can help you with:

• binding your assignments
• photocopying
• issuing your books, cds & DVDs via the Self Issue Machines.
• using the kiosk to add credit to your printing account

Changes to library opening hours over Summer

The Christmas holiday season and the end of the academic year are almost upoun us. Our hours of operation change for the period December through January.

Our opening hours for the period Monday 1st December 2014 -Friday 30th January 2015 will be:

Monday to Friday          8 am – 5 pm

Saturday                          Closed

Sunday                             Closed

Our usual opening hours will resume from Monday the 2nd February 2015.
