Covid vaccination clinic for Maori and Pacific peoples at Ara campuses

On Wednesday the 20th October the Ara Health Centre will be running a Covid vaccination program for Maori and Pacific staff, students and their whanau.

The aim is to assist with the nationwide push to get as many people as possible vaccinated against Covid before the end of the year.

Bookings are preferred but drop ins are also available…contact the Ara Health Centre for more information.

The clinics will run at both the City and Woolston campuses so why not become part of the drive to protect what we love by getting vaccinated against Covid.

Labour Weekend hours at Ara Library

Monday the 25th October is Labour Day so all Ara campus be closed on that day. The Library will reopen at 7am on  Tuesday 26th October.

Labour Day has been celebrated in New Zealand since 1900 and commemorates the struggle over many decades for an 8 hour working day.

Some people will still be working but many of us will be able to spend time with family and friends. Labour Day activities include camping, tramping, walks, visits to the beach or your favorite park.  You might make a weekend of it and head off to some exotic location around New Zealand…

Why not tramp to one of our iconic backcountry huts over Labour Weekend

As always in the age of Covid-19 make sure you are following the guidelines for spending time together. Wear your face covering as appropriate, wash your hands and stay home if you are feeling unwell.

From all the staff here at Ara Library we hope you have a happy and restful Labour Day.

Māori and non-Māori worldwide can’t get enough of TikTok Ka Hao waiata dance trend

Brought to you by Trina from the Learning Services.

Ka Hao TikTok dance trend was created by @jahjahhura, most of this wahine’s content is celebrating the Māori culture and I think it is great.  My FYP (for your page) on TikTok has been lit up with people from all of the world, both Māori and non-Māori participating in this fun dance and waiata trend. Ka Hao is so catchy; this tune stays in your head for days. I find myself sitting at my desk humming away happily.

Ara community have been celebrating Te Reo Māori all of this month, and online there are many activities for our community to participate in. I thought I would jump on this trend and anxiously make my first TikTok ever.  I am sending a wero to you, to record and post your Ka Hao TikTok. I am not a dancer, but it was loads of fun learning this dance. Whānau in celebration of Mahuru Māori record your Te Hao kanikani and best pūkana and send it to us via our Ara Library Facebook page and a prize could be coming your way!
